I really do wish we prioritised the goal for privacy and running these models locally on the device

this might be orthogonal to the actual OP, but i really worry how often people are sold on the performance of intellect rather than its outcomes, and maybe this worry is misplaced

The Trump regime is deliberately deploying ICE agents at immigration hearings so they can more easily detain migrants.

Armed, masked men abducting people from courthouses β€”and arresting those who ask why β€” is the stuff fascism is made of.

Confidence could be improved by footnote style citations for *each point* within the paragraph and the links including `#:~:text=…` fragments for the specific section. But the (current) vague citations and 404s indicate they’re optimising for perception of confidence instead

When ChatGPT has a source at the end of a paragraph, they know they’re leaning on this pattern. Several times I’ve clicked these links and could not find the cited info. Often they’re just 404s which is laughable for a *live* source, not training material, and demonstrates their abuse of the pattern

Search engines have implemented many assurances for source confidence. They strip html content hidden by css, reindex often enough to avoid rug pulls, don’t rephrase (beyond tense) ie hallucinate. That is the expected standard now – could be better but don’t want to undersell it either

Not even β€˜the’ government. Just government in general. Screams of internal delusion – they’ll never allow themselves to see they’re wrong

This is one of the least controversial things in maths. There are at least 3 proofs that are simple and intuitive like your example. Wait until she hears 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + … = -1/12

What I love about that episode is holds a mirror up at real human behaviour. It’s like, given this sci-fi future tech exists, where does that existing behaviour lead. There are some great episodes from this season of flawed humans using tech awfully. I personally think every episode was amazing

Doesn’t everyone do this and only sometimes catch themselves before posting or is this another adhd thing I don’t know about…

Ah ok the position is known, not relative to each other, but absolutely, based on predefined orbits – is that right?

01.04.2025 11:45 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Ok gonna google then. My understanding was the signals are timestamps and the client device can compare the time it receives 3 signals and triangulate its position based on the receipt time offset – given the position of the satellites relative to each other is known

Yeah fun show but it kinda immediately infantilised all the demons (which I guess is what kept it a fun show)

The real problem boils down wealth inequality and the complete lack of social mobility making people feel increasingly hopeless. The people who did make it to the top will never admit it was mostly luck or privilege, because it doesn't serve their interests. So they peddle this nonsense. 1/?

pretending you have convictions, and then designing your campaign by focus group and doing whatever you think is a convolution of policies that hits all the core points is not actually successful

This is coming from someone who has been told a multiple occasions growing up that I pronounce my own name wrong, when everyone I meet pronounces it inextricably worse πŸ˜…

I’m sure there are varying degrees you pronounce the H in Rohin whereas an elder might consider that β€œwrong”

14.03.2025 12:58 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I think this is a better angle to the problem than simply pronouncing it β€œwrong”. Pronounce it how you want but, even if you’re not able to speak Hindi/Punjabi, you should probably know enough to not pronounce it like that

Does it redirect or is it responding appropriately (subjective) to your browsers Accept header? If you curl it with Accept: image/gif or anything not text/html, does it redirect or respond with the same html page? If not, technically it’s still respecting http

if you find yourself reluctant to support the guy at Columbia because you find some of the politics he espoused distasteful or even abhorrent, you should know that this is exactly the reaction that they hoped for in choosing him as a target for unlawful detention based on political speech.
