When Local Police Collaborate with ICE, Children Pay the Price
I know exactly what message the recent deportation of an Austin mom and her 5-year-old sends to kids. They learn that calling 911 is dangerous.
"I know exactly what messages moments like this send to children. They learn that police are not there to protect them. They learn that even citizenship does not guarantee safety when your family is undocumented. And they learn, most devastatingly, that they are disposable."

'Even in Russia, they don't treat children like this': A family's nightmare in ICE detention
A Russian couple and their children sought asylum in the U.S. In a Texas detention center, they say they endured worms in the food and hourslong waits for medicine.
I interviewed a family of Russian asylum seekers whoβve been held more than four months at the Dilley detention center in Texas.
As we spoke over Zoom this week, their daughter Kamilla was one day shy of turning 12. I asked her what she wanted for her birthday.
She replied: βTo get out of here.β

CDC terminates grant for Minnesota meant to strengthen public health infrastructure
Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed that they have cancelled about $38 million in public health investments for Minnesota, effective as of
Feb. 11.
The terminated funding is from the Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG), and is the latest development in the federal government's ongoing campaign of retribution against Minnesota This five-year grant began in 2022 and was set to expire in 2027.
Nationwide, 107 health departments across all 50 states received this funding, but only Minnesota and three other states are having these funds cancelled.
βThe surge is endingβ
The fascists can say anything they want and they are. The reality is the federal government is cutting Minnesota off and is waging economic warfare at an incredibly high-level. The game for the federal government is literally to starve the state of funds until it collapses.

Veterans β Goons
Trump cut VA positions and froze hiring for nurses and psychologistsβwhile 94% of VA facilities report severe staffing shortages. That money instead paid thousands of militarized agents to invade Minnesota and shoot Alex Pretti, a VA ICU nurse, dead while he lay prone on the ground. Veterans who earned their care are denied it so goons can terrorize American citizens.
Care for Starving Children β Fascist Influencers
Trump killed USAID funding, creating a $60 billion gap. The Lancet estimates 22.6 million preventable deaths by 2030, including 5.4 million children under five, as a result of all the funding cuts in 2025 around the world, as allies aped the Trump regimeβs cuts. In just six months, 600,000 people died preventable deaths, mostly in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Where did some of that money go? To fund far-right movements in Europe. Weβre literally taking money from starving children and giving it to Nigel Farage, supporting Nazi-ish parties in Germany, and funding that weird mix of fascist and Putin-purchased movements across Europe.
Cancer Research β Measles Outbreaks
Bobby Jr. terminated or froze 320 grants researching cancer, Alzheimerβs, diabetes, and heart diseaseβ$561 million redirected away from cures. Meanwhile, measles outbreaks are hitting detention centers holding children like five-year-old Liam Ramos. Weβre trading the possibility of curing cancer for the certainty of preventable disease spreading in camps where weβre holding American children.
