And today I emailed leadership about active shooter training, as our programs bring us to schools all over the metro, and we want to make sure we're as safe and solid as we can be for all ~700,000 of our kids... And that feels real shitty, and also like the next right thing.

Then @worstmillennial.bsky.social pointed out the importance of showing up for our communities to "remind us of each other's humanity", and we talked about how there is joy in that even in the wake of all of this terrific awfulness.

Yesterday I learned that I graduated high school with one of the mothers of the students killed at Annunciation. I'm also in education. I had all-day PD and spent much of the morning crying in my admin's office. I think this is all to say everyone is fragile, connected in ways we don't even know.

Say what you will about the United States military (and I will) but there is something inherently genuine about veterans' support staff and the people behind these 800 numbers.

We did do this. My personal record was 58 min, because a fatal flaw in the system (at least then) is you had to finish it, and the teacher had to let you, so we just stayed outside for half of the next period and got passes to class when we got bored and wrapped it up.
