The Great Santini (1979) - Mama's Boy Scene (5/9) | Movieclips
THE GREAT SANTINI doesn't get much attention anymore but this is an all-time great scene. Here you see a great actor embodying a very masculine type and the childish sore loser underneath the facade. This is what I mean when I say these types of characters aren't interrogated in movies much anymore.

Matejkoβs βStaΕczykβ. From Wikipedia: βStaΕczyk is shown sitting alone in a dark room, while a ball, hosted by the royal family, is in full swing in the neighbouring hall. His appearance is unlike that one would expect in a jester β gloomy, deep in thought. His seriousness is reinforced by his accessories: his marotte lies discarded on the floor, whereas a holy medallion of the Black Madonna of CzΔstochowa can be seen on his torso. The wrinkled carpet at StaΕczyk's feet could have been formed by his collapsing heavily into the chair upon reading the letter, or through a nervous shifting of the feet thereafter. On the table lies a letter likely announcing that the Grand Duchy of Lithuania has lost Smolensk (now in Russia) to the Grand Duchy of Moscow, causing StaΕczyk's sorrow and reflection on his fatherland's fateβ
Thought Iβd start posting from time to time some of the most famous Polish paintings, so that my non-Polish followers can learn a thing or two about our culture. This one by Jan Matejko is called βJestermaxxingβ, and it portrays a guy who, tragically, jestermaxxed

I'd say that's a generous reading of the situation! The Scots defence has been overshadowed by their attacking game, but was extremely good again yesterday. And when they sorted the scrum out 2nd half they even had reasonable set piece game, which is... unusual π

In two minds whether to watch #FRAvsWAL this aft. France are dazzling, obvs, but given Wales's thrashing by an England in 3rd gear it could be Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul without the schadenfreude

They weren't breaking the line, though. Much made of chargedown aa turning point, for me more telling was that Ford didn't feel they were going to get the ball down in another few phases & for safer option.
