like, if i had a casual minute conversation with a friend, i might say "fucking" or "shit" multiple times. but you turn that off when you're around kids. once we're adults, even if you're a 100% doomer and don't/won't have any kids, the moral obligation is to try not to spoil the hope of the young.

a main reason i never wanted kids is that IRL i'm usually very much an introvert - at a party i might mostly pet the cat - but i still go to friends'/family' parties for their kids, and don't mind if i'm around kids otherwise, because trying be cool/better around kids is like part of being an adult.

i remember when, at its peak in like season 6, the people behind "the walking dead" said they expected it to run for 20 seasons, quickly after which it fell off in ratings and ended after 11... and they already had a hit show on their hands. calling your 10 season shot before HP even airs is hubris.

imho, if you're going to do a straight-up remake of something, it's probably not going to work if there isn't a big generational gap in audience or technology, like the recent "dune" movies. most of the audience for the HP show will have seen the movies already and the CGI won't be that much better.

that's a notable difference between this and recent "reboots," like "superman" or "fantastic four": while those are based on familiar heroes and villains, the idea is that they're not just retelling the same story. lex luthor isn't trying to build a continent of kryptonite or create doomsday, again.

then again, it kind of makes sense because the faster you're going, the less different going 5 mph one way or another feels... 65-70-75 is harder to gauge relative to one's surroundings, whereas going 20/30 in a 25mph zone feels slow/fast...

like, if you put me in a car without a speedometer and asked me to drive 25 or 40, i'm confident i could maintain those speeds within a couple mph. if you did the same put me on I-75 and told me to keep it at 70, i would probably constantly fluctuate *at least* 5 mph in either direction.

one thing i pride myself with, borne of mostly driving the same roads for years within about 5 miles of my house in a pretty safe area where cops have nothing better to do than hand out tickets, is how zeroed in i am about naturally driving either 25 or 40 mph. on freeways i have to check regularly.
