Saturday morning thoughts: The province is interfering in Halifax's work on bike lanes, yet the same government killed the Coastal Protection Act in 2024, downloading that work onto municipalities.

As the day Omar El Akkad predicted is slowly becoming a reality -- that “one day" when "everyone will have always been against this," people might forget what institutions, employers and peers did to those who really have always been against this.

This new report helps to remind us:

"moving better includes goals like improving transit reliability, traffic congestion and safety of all transportation modes, including vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles"
This has long been a "priority", never a focus of action - which has this direct result

As a cyclist you can follow every law and be tireless to mitigate every risk going, it still won’t stop you from being callously endangered by bad and dangerous drivers.

Despite the gutter press campaign to make you think otherwise, the true source of danger on the roads comes from motorists.

Reading historic staff reports and learning all the problems of today were first identified over 20 years ago and we've done literally nothing since to solve the identified issues

Not to mention bankers, speculators, developers, landlords, polluters and all their political enablers.

It looks like #Halifax regional council's meeting on Tuesday will be another marathon session. I went through the agenda and wrote up some of the highlights, which really all tie together.
