Absolutely, that is the one thing every Canadian PM has had in common since I've been here: neoliberalism. Which is tragic, tbh.

20.02.2026 14:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes, Mulroney, Martin, and Carney are all similar policy wise. Chretien, fiscally, though he was more progressive socially. Harper, was more social Con.
We don't have a better label. If you'd rather say right of centre, fine. Tory. Blue Liberal.
People understand "fiscal Con," even if not perfect.
I agree it's very smart, politically, and beneficial for the Liberal party. He has completely stolen Poilievre's thunder.
That may not be great for Canada medium to long term, though, as it forces Cons to shift further right. Just look at Alberta Premier's recent speech for evidence. Scary.
Absolutely. He is doing more than most PMs have done. Certainly, in the first year in office. CPC are wildly crazy to suggest otherwise.

The federal government also recently reduced health coverage for refugees. Which should have made cruel Dani and her clan happy. But it is actually grotesque policy.
20.02.2026 14:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0On GDP, I would add that it isn't a measure of how well (or poorly) actual people are doing.
Who cares if Chevron made a record profit for its shareholders?
But for some reason, Albertans (and many Canadians) wrongly believe Alberta has the highest GDP, as you mentioned, and that GDP matters.
GDP is not a measure of how well (or poorly) a country's citizens are doing.
I repeat,
GDP is not a measure of how well (or poorly) a country's citizens are doing.
Some of us notice his plan includes mass layoffs, cutting foreign aid, reducing health coverage for refugees, etc.
He is implementing his plan. Absolutely. And that plan is a Conservative one.
Of course a label is simplistic. Just as saying "progressive" or "centrist" or "social conservative" is a simplification.
It's also as accurate as we can be with a label. Carney is a fiscal Conservative. He has a plan, yes, a fiscally Conservative plan. And he has been implementing it, yes.
A reminder for journalists who love to publish GDP figures:
It is not a measure of how well (or in the case of the US, how poorly) citizens are doing.
It's been very well established.

vs
Fiscal Con (LPC).
That tracks for Alberta.
I'm never going to forgive Albertans for stirring up this bigoted sh*t in Canada.
There is perhaps only 1 thing that makes Canada what it is.
No, not hockey.
Multiculturalism.
So, these racist assh*les can get all the way f*cked.

That Carney is a fiscal Conservative and that polls well in Alberta.

Given that most Americans can't even be bothered to protest, I'm guessing he will not meet such a fate. Sadly. But his fascist successor might (depending on how long until Americans wake up).

Fascist dictators tend to frown on that.
Proposed projects like the one you've shared are great.
With respect to the bridge, though, there are gov't owned lands at both ends of the bridge that could be upzoned and sold to developers to cover most, if not all, of the bridge upgrades. Mixed use development would also generate property tax.
