I don't know if you've read Jane Austen's Bookshelf, which looks at the female novellists who were her major influences and then looks at why almost none of them are remembered now, but it's really made me think about how things become 'classics', and whether they actually represent the best work.

Also of course, what is and is not upstate varies widely depending on where you're from. I'd say it's anything north of Albany (by latitude), but some people exclude western NY, and NYC people think it's anywhere outside the city.

It varies: some companies are ok, some aren't, but none of them have done major investment in decades. Ticket prices can be ok for short trips, but it's cheaper to fly to Edinburgh than to go by train, which is indefensible. And there are TONS of ticket options, so it's v hard to buy the right one.

The man has lovely hair. I feel like it's pretty distinctive, if I knew him I bet I'd be able to ID off that alone too. Possibly because I'd spend a large part of my time near him staring at it!
