Home Alone 1 & 2, Last Holiday, Arthur Christmas and My Secret Santa (in jest) would be my top 5 right now!

Thank you for writing something so wonderful!!

Really gave me a lovely look into something that I never got to experience personally but would love to help bring back in new ways!

Oh yeah, that was an odd addition at first, wasn't it? I did end up enjoying it a lot in the end as well.

The backstory really does add to the show!

That was a fantastic read, thank you so much!!

I've never even seen a DVD store. I missed out on that era completely. As much as I enjoy buying DVD's for dirt cheap at the thrift store (for way, way less than rentals cost in that article), I do really wish for that community space she describes!

I've gone back to DVD's (both thrifted and borrowed) and I can't recommend it enough.

Surprisingly, it's turned out more comfortable, more convenient and much more joyeous than streaming.

That's Showbiz Baby! by JADE.

Best enjoyed (in my humble opinion) as a full experience with the visual album: youtu.be/Bmsj0TFyegc?...

I stayed in Ouistreham. Highly recommend the beach there, stunning, clean and you can park the car right next to to beach.

As for the history, absolutely get a car. There are a lot of great smaller WW2 museums in that area and the castle in Caen is also lovely!

Awhh I'm sad you didn't enjoy it!!

I loved it, laughed so hard. Very unhinged script and the actors went all in (there is no way Eggold's yearning looks at Santa were an accident).

And Breckenridge did the physical comedy quite nicely imo!

A fun one to hatewatch with friends 🀭

I have to agree with this. The only times where I felt that shared experience the last couple of years was Barbie and the Taylor Swift tour movie. They were 'event' movies.

All the 'regular' movies I've seen were not enhanced by sharing it with strangers. Oftentimes even ruined by the rude ones.

I highly recommend the new Olivia Dean album 'The Art of Loving', it's very smooth, it's got soul and also a sort of peaceful joy to it. One of my favorite releases this year.

Gosh streaming is just the worst. I once subscribed to Disney+ to watch one of their original TV shows just a couple months after the release. Got the whole family together for a special evening. You guessed it, it was pulled from the service, not available anywhere else. I collect DVD's now πŸ˜‚πŸ‘

My condolances. As a small consolation, you may now read the (likely hilarious) 2 star reviews on Goodreads and commiserate with the other people who cannot believe this books was ever enjoyed, let alone praised by another human being.

I'm a big TV show person but I do indeed prefer to watch old shows so I can watch it without any long breaks.

I really only watch procedurals weekly! You don't really have to remember anything for those.

Movies often go too quick for me. I'm all emotionally invested and then... it's already over!

You really summerized it with 'The levels of inanity are still something to behold' πŸ˜‚ I already forgot about Hugh Mann. Made me laugh just reading it again now hahahah!

(Btw the gay couple doing her make over are her brother and his partner, not just her friends)

I feel the same about VHS!! When DVD is right there.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug I guess.

Hahahah nicely done!

What about Noelle on Disney+ and Arthur Christmas on Prime?

05.12.2025 19:34 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

My Secret Santa on Netflix is so (partly unintentionally) funny! But also very Christmassy and the cast is just so great at wholesome feelgood!

I think Last Holiday is also streaming in a couple places. It's a little more serious but perhaps the most feelgood Christmas movie I've ever seen!

I LOVE Christmas music. I listen to basically nothing else during November and December.

And yet I still think there should be a rule about Christmas music in the workplace. Like people in retail having to listen to the same 7 songs on repeat, that's essentially just a legal form of torture!

05.12.2025 15:23 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Yess!! I feel like the theme of family makes it such a perfect Christmas movie! Way more so than just the romance and the fact that it is set during the holiday season, on their own.

05.12.2025 14:06 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Arthur Christmas is absolutely adorable. Visually very fun even if she can't pay attention to the whole storyline!

And if you are looking for something less stimulating, Winnie the Pooh and Christmas Too is super cute!

Hilariously bad: My Secret Santa (Netflix)

Hallmark type cheese: A Sweet Christmas Romance (Lifetime)

General Christmas feelgood: Last Holiday (Streaming almost everywhere)

An actual Hallmark movie: A Biltmore Christmas

And... what if we mostly looked towards small artists to give them a little cheerful boost during the holidays?

(I've been doing this for years, so many great original songs out there by small artists!!)

I found the second season even better than the first, excited to see what they are going to manage with the third season!

So exciting! I loved her in A Sweet Christmas Romance.

I just watched My Secret Santa on Netflix and it is an absolute gem. It is SO, so deeply bad in all the right ways. If you need something to hate watch for Christmas with friends, I think this is the one.

If you think 'oh no one wants to see my -insert music app- wrapped on social media'

WRONG.

I want to see it.
