Where's the premier while MLAs rush through an all-night debate on stripping Albertans of their Charter rights?
An airport lounge, waiting for a flight to Saudi Arabia. She didn't even bother to show up for the vote.
I remember when conservatives turfed premiers for this level of hubris.

Let's be clear about what happened today.
Premier Smith introduced a bill to strip Albertans of Charter rights,
denied MLAs the opportunity to debate it and the courts the ability to scrutinize it,
and did all of this from her seat on a jet to Saudi Arabia.

The long count: Alberta communities prepare to tally ballots by hand | CBC News
Alberta municipalities are in for a long night β and in many cases, days β to complete the more complicated process of counting every ballot on election day by hand, rather than machine.
When the election is long past and you still don't know who your councillor is, please remember it's because Danielle Smith's base doesn't like electronic vote tabulators (which are accurate, have been used for decades, and saved time and money).

The Conservative Party has lost its way. It needs to stop mimicking the exact same US narratives and stop creating fear and using exaggeration to make a case for being in power. This is Canada. We are smarter and not easily fooled and we have the benefit of seeing whatβs happening to the south.

When municipal election results are delayed on Monday, remember that the elimination of electronic tabulators, at the cost of millions of taxpayer dollars to Edmonton and Calgary residents, was done by the UCP - Ric McIver - with no consultation, simply to appease Take Back Alberta.

Both sat in the council meeting where they were told this was not so at the end of term.

Alberta to use notwithstanding clause on its three transgender laws: memo
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith plans to invoke the Charterβs notwithstanding clause this fall on three laws affecting transgender people.
The use of the notwithstanding clause in Alberta should be a line in the sand for everyone.
Wielding such immense constitutional power to preemptively strip Charter rights from one of our most vulnerable minorities is a dangerous and cynical act.
Rights aren't a buffet you can pick from.

"By turning antipathy toward immigration into yet another grievance against Ottawa, they are creating space for Albertans to indulge in their worst inclinations.
To have a panel led by the premier indulging in these ideas is simply shameful.": Lisa Young
