I forgot how tense the end-game scoring can be with this "knife-fight-in-a-phone-booth".

Brought the old-school classic Star Realms as a backup along with lane-dueler Riftforce.

Both games were new to my #boardgame opponent but he loved them immediately.

How did it land for your group? I've been getting a lot of people to try Arcs in hopes of building a competitive scene and response has been mixed.

A common experience is staring at a hand of action cards and not feeling like they have any decent moves. I think board state is hard to read for them

We have new players in the #boardgames group so I've been bringing classics to the table

Last week was Cyclades, this week Bloodrage.

The painted Monsters were a new addition from the last play.

I deliberately drafted the Fire & Frost Giant twins just for the photo op.

Surprisingly they won it.

I wonder if ARCS just bucks the trend of games that reward players with unlocks, bonuses, combos, tracks, etc. with a closed economy & tight action selection?

When I teach Arcs to newer boardgame players I try to reinforce the game can reward aggression based on cards, similar to Kemet power tiles

Interesting reaction. I've been trying to find a local player group to get into Campaign ARCS and I've been using the base game to recruit.

While I've seen players get frustrated, I've never had to end a game early.

Several times the player that declared "I've lost!" in Ch.2/3 end up winning.

Sunday was first opportunity since PAX to get the #boardgame group together.

Wanted to get a troops-on-a-map game to the table that was streamlined without fiddly rules.

Finished painting the creature minis for Cyclades last month. Major boost to table presence.

I thought checkmate too because the chessboard was so specific PLUS the loser was so obvious.

Always a fun game because afterwards everyone critiques and praises everyone's kooky, silly or perfect drawings

Discovered this hip horror-tiki themed restaurant with bar that plays schlocky late-night creature feature clips on loop and serves killer drinks in skulls.

Food is also solid but theme and atmosphere just screamed one-of-a-kind experience.

Biggest hit of PAX Unplugged for breezy, quick "while we're waiting for your friends to find us in the gaming hall" game was Flip 7.

Once our group formed up we still played several rounds of this push-your-luck convention staple.

Alot of these small-format games require everyone to be "in the game". Many of them rely on bluffing or have an interactive element to taking an action.

Agree that Scout is a fun one. I share it with non-gamers at work socials and it always hits...easy to teach, especially if they've played poker.
