Notable that they say "perfectly capable of following the posted speed limit" and not "I always follow the posted speed limit"

I’m told I need to find a way to live together, in harmony, with these loathsome bigots, and I don’t really feel any desire to try. I would rather work to undermine them, to humiliate them, to deny them peace or joy.

people are really, really bad (or extremely unmotivated) at understanding power differentials

when cars break rules, they are potentially lethal to anyone around them

when bikes break rules, they are potentially lethal to very few

when pedestrians break rules, they are only lethal to themselves

Let's not forget that this seat was vacant because Islamaphobic Democrats wouldn't let Biden's appointee be confirmed. And Schumer let the clock run out.

Your wordle/games subscription doesn’t go in some magical separate pile. It goes to the New York Times, and it pays for things like Bret Stephens, Maggie Haberman, and both sides coverage of ICE and all the rest. Wake up.

/5 So. If totalitarians, theocrats, and white nationalists have rejected the rule of law, checks and balances, and the constitutional order, why should they be protected by any of the rules or norms of that order?

I keep referring people back to this because it keeps coming up.

People ask me how long things this regime does will be allowed or tolerated and I keep asking β€œby whom”? Dad is not getting home later. The most charitable view of SCOTUS is that they have decided to be hands-off….

As a Kansas voter: please, no. This is just the same warmed-over centrist BS but with a folksy Central Plains spin. Is Gov. Kelly better than Brownback? Indubitably, but that is not saying much.

i think the big middle event between george floyd protests and covid that accelerated this hard right turn in elite circles was tech employees using slack to stage walk-outs and force concessions from management. tech bosses got a first whiff of organized labor's power and started reading mein kampf

I went to journalism school. I have a degree in this shit. I had one of the great editorial page editors and writers I’ve ever encountered for a professor, twice. And I gotta tell you: they do not teach you to studiously avoid calling racism or genocide by their names. That’s NYTimes making Choices.

my view is that everyone should be able to earn a living wage doing whatever it is they like. if you love working in a bookshop, you should be able to live a comfortable life doing so. if you loving being a barista, the same. and if you want to do more traditional blue collar work, that’s cool too!

Trump’s $5 million β€˜gold card’ visa might never happen The president and his aides have exaggerated the likelihood that the program can be implemented and have made no effort to introduce legislation that would be needed.

And yet damn near every story that ran/aired about this treated it as an afterthought that…he can’t do this. Amazeballs.

Arguably if NYT wanted to get ahead they could have written that story, about Nazis trying to start a race controversy with hacked data. But as it turns out, they wanted to be the Nazis.

I obsess over the NYT because they normalize fascism while setting the agenda for Corporate News, while maintaining legitimacy with Democrats & independents, which makes them uniquely dangerous to US.

After Fox News, no outlet has been more helpful to the ongoing rise of fascism in the United States than the New York Times. And it’s not even close.
