Flood the zone with as much gak and atrocity as you can so that nobody can pay attention to what just happened, and pray that you have an overwhelming majority of sheep that will follow you. It’s just tragically and sadly familiar. It’s on them; it’s not on us.

Oh God! Councilor Smith found a new ally, the disgraced former Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputy who got fired for exposing his junk to multiple women in Lake Oswego parks.

i think there's a perfectly reasonable case to ban people from carrying guns in City Hall. Making an exception for someone who admits they are utterly unqualified to do so is insane and honestly evil.

I'm sure Portland's elected leaders have reasons to be worried. I get death threats for writing about politics in this city, they surely must. But the incident described was:

1. Not in any way violent or dangerous

2. Smith's desire to escalate by openly carrying a gun is horribly irresponsible

this is exactly the wrong way to think about owning and carrying a firearm. i cannot overemphasize how irresponsible Councilor Smith's logic is here. Openly carrying a weapon you know nothing about is just BEGGING to have that weapon taken off your body and used against you.

So Portland's leadership, in all it's wisdom, decides there's no need for any civilian to be armed in City Hall. then they change their mind when a left-wing protester yells at them for not revoking ICE's permit to keep using their facility.

So Portland bans the carrying of firearms in City Hall. Then a peaceful protest spooks one councilor and now they're advocating to allow JUST councilors to open carry, even though the main advocate for this rule admits they don't know how to use a gun and just want it on their body as a totem.
