I had a kinda similar situation where an intern applicant applied and one of the questions they get asked is to name 4 books they have influenced their policy views. He named one of my top 5 favorite books, so I got excited. But his reasoning for why completely missed the entire point of the book.

That phenomenon was always so silly because they ALL claimed to be famous historical figures. There wasn't a single person who was like "Yeah, in my past life I was John Jones, apple farmer in upstate New York who died of consumption before his 40th birthday."

"Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire." It's right up your alley: a history book but it's in-universe for Star Wars. Really well done, and has all kinds of great stuff about the rivalries between the different military and intelligence branches.

Just finished the phenomenal "The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire" by @chriskempshall.bsky.social and I really wish there were more books that hit this niche for me: "non-fiction" about fictional sci-fi universes.

I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected, and I enjoyed the second book even if most of the way through it I felt like I'd suffered a concussion I was so confused. Haven't finished the series yet, but plan to.

I remember a listicle back in the day of something like "20 worst high school mascots" and solidly half of them were central and southern Illinois high schools. My Chicago suburbs school were the "Maroons." Like the color, that's it.
