04.10.2025 23:24 β π 10 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Obviously useful for an animal, especially a highly social animal, to be able to predict the actions of other animals. Presumably also useful to be able to predict its own actions. Get good enough at that and turn it on itself and maybe you get consciousness: "you" are a model of your own actions.

29.09.2025 00:25 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's the billionaires. Computers made some lucky people very very rich. They start looking for reasons to justify their wealth. These justifications naturally wind up being right-wing. They start saying, "computer should fix everything" in right-wing ways, and lots of people hear that because rich.

09.09.2025 13:10 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The closest SF depiction to an LLM I can think of is the poetry machine from Lem's The Cyberiad.
29.08.2025 13:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So I was thinking about this again, and the default AI in SF is a being of numbers and logic and precision that has difficulty with feelings (ie autism coded), while a LLM is all about (imitating) vibes and bad with facts and figures. I think that may be part of why some people react so differently.
29.08.2025 12:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Eh, I can't blame people too much for being suspicious about "AI" when Elon, Andressen, Altman and the rest all talk about it like they're cultists trying to sell you on summoning Cthulhu.

21.07.2025 04:41 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Ah, the Probability Broach. Where the "heroes", searching for malevolent Federalists, mistakenly bust down the door to a 5th birthday party (in the best tradition of cops in any timeline) and comment that they're lucky it wasn't a 6th birthday because then the kids would all have been packing.
