“Eschatology” reminds me that poetry can feel like like soothing salve on a very bad day. My students tell me they love this poem because it’s about death, but it’s “mostly about the beautiful little things that make life something we’re afraid to miss.”

The (paper back then) Post was my main newspaper in college. Decades later I read Katharine Graham's extraordinary, Pulitzer Prize-winning autobiography. What a woman. What a paper. What a loss.

Jeremy Carl thinks ethnic representation is a zero-sum game. Representation isn't a pie. Neither is culture. My culture isn't diminished when others are celebrated & lifted up. The opposite is true: My culture is enriched by other cultures. I'm profoundly grateful for the diversity that is America.
