She wrote me a long letter at Christmas in a religious devotion book she gave me, asking me to go back to a bible focused church. I honestly didn’t know what to say. I left my previous church over abuse. Now I know how to articulate how distant from Jesus evangelical churches have become.

AMEN.

I’m not crying, you’re crying! I wish I could get my mom to understand that the evangelical church I grew up in should be showing up, but isn’t.

I’m a little meh on Star Trek: Dawson’s Creek, but that’s perfectly ok. Not all content should be centered on what I want. I wish we would get Star Trek: Legacy, though.

(1/2) My cousin is having extreme brain surgery today at CHOA. He has medication resistant epilepsy, and he’s going in for a 2 week long procedure. They will cut the top of his skull off, stick in electrodes, and monitor the electrical pulses on his brain for a week.

After watching the first two episodes of the new season of The Pitt, I wonder if the young girl with the bruises can’t feel pain. She didn’t flinch when they took blood, and it would explain the bruises.

It boggles my mind that, in the year of our Lord 2026, that France is just now adding this.

Time for the Netflix equivalent of a Hallmark Christmas movie: adaptations of Harlan Corbin books. They are all inexplicably re-set in the UK, but with American vocabulary largely intact for some reason. Insane and really stupid plots, but still enjoyable. Sadly, Richard Armitage is NOT in this one.

So we’ve invaded another nation in the name of freedom, when we are actually after the natural resources. Rubber, tin, and oil, rinse, wash, repeat. We never learn, do we? Sigh.

Forgot to get collards this year for New Year’s Day to go with my ham and hoppin’ john. Only had arugula in the fridge, so I made a raspberry pecan arugula salad with raspberry vinaigrette. Since eating collards last year didn’t change how horrible it was, maybe arugula salad will do the trick?

My nieces gave me a mug from my grad school before they change the name (angry sigh). I’m having a nice cup of coffee in it.

I realized on Christmas that I had made it through without hearing Wham!, and THEN I realized it was because the world is a dumpster fire and hopeful Christmas music wasn’t hitting, so I never listened to it.

My mom is nearly done with her industrial strength post surgery steroids, and she hasn’t gotten more than 2 hours of sleep a night for nearly 6 weeks. She’s so exhausted.

Saw Wake Up Dead Man, and loved it. Its portrayal of the false prophets of Christianity, while focusing on the love of Jesus for the lowest among us served as a stark contrast to the current Christian Nationalists. No notes.

I have one piece of advice for all of the actors making films and tv in 4K: wear sunblock. I should not look younger than women and men who are a decade younger than me.

Mom is back in the hospital for surgery to get a screw replaced in her spine. Please God let this surgery go more smoothly than last time. 🙏🏻

Normall most Apple TV+ shows are meh, but I’m loving The Last Frontier. One of my niche beloved genres is thrillers set in impossibly cold places. It isn’t high art, but I’m finding it very interesting enjoyable.

Even Richard Lynn’s racist IQ research hasn’t been retracted, and dude has admitted to cherry picking data to support his racist and misogynistic goals of proving that white men are the smartest and deserve all the power and money.

Thinking that the research of the main dude couldn’t be done without him, and that these specific people HAVE to do it or it won’t get done. That’s not how research works. You publish your findings and someone takes the baton and comes up with a new study brining it forward. Wash, rinse, repeat.
