The entire business model of R1 public universities rests on 4 revenue sources:

1. Federal grants
2. Private gifts/endowments
3. Tuition (esp. from foreign students)
4. State $

For decades, 📈 in 1-3 offset a secular 📉 in 4. Now, 1 & 3 are being decimated & 4 ain't coming back. The math is clear.

Tl;dr:

The public does not know this. They don't realize how the budget at their beloved 🏈/🏀 State U works, or that their kids won't be able to take courses/labs they need there anymore, bc they won't exist without federal $ & foreign graduate students.

Maybe someone should speak up about this stuff? 🤷‍♂️🧐

If you only have 1 set of school buses to service an entire town, you don't have much choice. Start times went HS (7:10), then middle (9:00), then elementary. HS was done by 2:15 pm.

Based on NSF's willingness to kill programs pre-tfg, I wonder how much of what they're doing now is stuff they *wanted* to do before but couldn't bc there'd be backlash by Congress/scientific community? And now that they have evil empire support they're going for it?

Yep. In HS first lunch was at 10:30 (we had 3 lunches bc the cafeteria wasn't big enough to hold everyone all at once). I was usually after school until 5 for drama practice or something tho so 6 was a pretty typical suppertime for us.

This would more or less halt the ability of scientists and academics from visiting the US to give talks, attend meetings and workshops, collaborate with peers on research and I think that is the primary point. 🧪

Well, it's where the nuclear fuel rods are placed after they can no longer be used as fuel. The pools are filled with racks that the rods are placed into. When the racks fill up, they have to be removed and the pools get re-racked with new racks.

My partner (during his commercial diving career) re-racked spent fuel pools at *4* different nuclear plants since ~1980.

Yes, those racks need to be replaced, and reasonably often. It's pretty dangerous and requires precision placement and underwater welding. There's also a "line of death" so... 😬

(not to mention pasting parts of client text into *any* online service violates our nda 😬)
