Coastal economies rely on NOAA, from Maine to Florida, Texas and Alaska – even if they don’t realize it NOAA’s work has kept fisheries from collapsing, helped coastal ecosystems survive extreme heat and battled invasive species, among many other tasks essential to coastal economies.

With DOGE going after the staff of NOAA, a reminder that β€œthe government estimates that NOAA’s projects and services support more than one-third of the nation’s gross domestic product.” Here’s how NOAA makes a big difference for fishing industries and coastal economies:

Terror won the war on terror so hard every American over 55 spends 23 hours a day watching Fox go Radio Rwanda against their own kids and neighbors and every American under 25 follows 875,973 political extremists on social media.

Really hoping at some point that people realize that a man who gets called β€œvery smart” isn’t necessarily moral, and maybe isn’t even smart.

In addition to Congress being the place that makes the laws, pretty key thing, the constitution explicitly says Congress gets to create the postal system. It’s not left implied that that comes under law making generally. The President has no power to unilaterally abolish it and move it to commerce.

Doge is auditing NASA today.

This is absurd. The owner of Space X should not be auditing NASA.

It’s a massive conflict of interest.

Journal that published faulty black plastic study removed from science index Chemosphere cut from Web of Science, which calculates impact factors.

More twists in black plastic utensils story: The study overstated the potential exposure to flame retardants by an order of magnitude because of a math error, and now the whole journal has been de-listed from a science index for not meeting "quality criteria." arstechnica.com/health/2024/...

Goldman Sachs asks in biotech research report: 'Is curing patients a sustainable business model?' Goldman Sachs warns sales from the most successful disease treatments are difficult to maintain.

I can hardly think of a better example of the moral decay in modern health care than a Goldman analyst noting that biotech cures for diseases like hepatitis are cool and all, until their success diminishes the business opportunity for pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Cervical Cancer Mortality Among US Women Younger Than 25 Years This study examines trends in cervical cancer mortality in US women aged younger than 25 years before and after the introduction of human papillomavirus vaccines.

The HPV vaccine has been recommended in the US since 2006. New study out today shows that cervical cancer deaths in young women in the years that followed have plummeted, decreasing 15% per year from 2013-2015.

You're not "late to the party" when you enjoy an old book for the first time. Books don't have an RSVP deadline. The party started long ago, and guests show up when they're meant to.
