thinking about women at the top of their game winning medals and trophies and being genuinely supportive of their competitors bc they aren’t threatened by each other’s success, meanwhile the face of sports transphobia is some asshole who placed eighth in a swim meet and made it everybody’s problem

To my mind, this is the single tweet that explains 95% of the energy behind the MAGA movement.

The plan, quite obviously, is to restrict the age to 14 when it's too late for puberty blockers to do anything and then use that as evidence that they are ineffective. Transphobic policy based evidence making.

The three journalists who helped ruin Ava Cordero's life when she tried to stop Epstein in 2006 *currently* work at NBC News, New York Magazine, and News Corp Australia. The one at NBC News is covering... Epstein.

At the point where I'm watching these just for the sight of Lutnick standing there like that stormtrooper waiting for Darth Vader to just choke him out and get it over with

I keep hearing that the Epstein files are so big if we held everyone accountable everything would collapse. And no it wouldn’t. These rich guys don’t do any actual work. They aren’t actually important or useful they are just rich.

A reminder that we didn't have an effective administration of the tariffs when they were being imposed, if you think there's some clean audit trail coming out of our import/export offices you're kidding yourself. What a cluster! What a fucking cluster!

Two brief takeaways from the SCOTUS decision striking down Trump's tariffs:

1. Justice Jackson is the only one actually doing proper statutory interpretation.

2. These people HATE each other. And I don't mean the conservatives hate the liberals. The conservatives DESPISE each other too.

You’ve got to click through to really be able to read this, but note that the box on the top right says this will actually be a two-level facility, with around 5,200 beds on the ground floor (if I’m reading the blurry text right) and around 3,100 on the β€œmezzanine.”

Maybe I’ll just keep posting this every time we learn of another violation of our 1st amendment rights (from our actual government) to remind us of the 152 prominent writers who were so bothered by β€œcancel culture” (post #metoo and #blm that they wrote an open letter about it back in 2020.

Nearly a year into many trans people in the UK being forced to use disabled toilets or asked to work from home pending legal advice and stuff and I haven't seen a single "Izzy's boss told her she has to use a disabled toilet, here's how she feels about it" piece in the papers.

Seems like a useful opportunity for professors teaching Intro to Sociology to explain what state indoctrination looks like

I honestly think one reason Millennials are so angry about all this is that many of us grew up during the brief period in American history where the official line was that we had won history *because* of our values, and most of us actually internalized that.

Alysa Liu Is Skating Again, Her Way This Time

Her father fled China because he organized student protests during Tiananmen. He was a political refugee. The story of this family, and Alysa Liu, would have played out very differently today. This is what we're losing. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/19/w...

Checkmate, Robert Jackson. In Florida, a petty official CAN prescribe what shall be orthodox in politics, nationalism, religion, or other matters of opinion.

Unfortunately, hundreds of habeas lawsuits in Minnesota may soon be rendered moot; the 8th Circuit appears likely to follow the 5th Circuit in endorsing a view of a 1996 mandatory detention law that not even ICE thought was legitimate until last year.

The news cycle around AOC’s β€œgaffe” is, in my humble opinion, a clear manufacturing of a β€œgaffe” where there was none. But it’s indicative of the belief undergirding a lot of MSM that if one β€œside” is behaving badly, the other β€œside” must be positioned as doing something wrong, too, for β€œfairness”

It is such a problem that "concentration camps" and "death camps" have been collapsed into one in the American imaginary, because no, I don't think the Trump regime is building death camps at the moment.

But concentration camps also kill.

Any pushback is still held up as proof of how *they’re* dehumanized. Because people won’t quietly accept their fake history of the Confederacy they must prepare for Civil War. It’s a joke and people laundering this stuff as the expression of legitimate grievances should feel bad for doing so

yes, we’re going to need trials and accountability, but we’re also going to need to take our stolen money back from this crime lord family.

How a Planned Disney World Vacation Turned Into Four Months in Immigration Detention A 9-year-old shares her story of being held at the nation’s only operating detention center for immigrant families in Dilley, Texas.

She lives with her grandmother in Colombia and travels frequently to the U.S. to visit her mother. Her visa made them targets for ICE.

A trip to Disneyland ended with a 9-year-old, who had broken no laws, detained at Dilley, Texas.

I have really come to believe that we'd be in a much better place right now if we had put Nixon away in a dingy cell for the rest of his natural life, instead of the slap on the wrist for being naughty that he actually received.

I used to think pre-emptive pardon was right.

Nixon was forced out, so the system was working.

But the message it sent was "the system will protect us" and then Reagan, brought back Nixon's staff, and Bush used the pardon to avoid being Nixoned.

And the system was broken.

This gives you a sense of scale of the Trump admin's new refugee detention policy; they are claiming that all 100,000 of these lawfully present refugees MUST be arrested and detained for "re-vetting" and interrogation about their status.
