It's kind of funny how Hayek's (mostly correct) argument against central planning because concentrating that much economic power in one place inevitably lead to totalitarian behavior is also a pretty strong argument against like, extreme concentrations of wealth and market power

one time on /r/BE someone tried arguing that real gdp is lower than it was in 1960, and it quickly became clear that they were adjusting for inflation twice! when I pointed it out they switched to arguing that higher real gdp was a sign that we were dehumanizing ourselves as a society

honestly, my support of higher teacher salaries isn't derived from some love of them. it's because teacher salaries are very roughly positively correlated with "likelihood of getting a someone who won't traumatize a child"

in my defense, it was 4th grade and our assigned reading was Roald Dahl - i figured if you were allowed to joke about running over and killing your family (James and the Giant Peach), you were allowed to joke about damaging government property

so i know that public schoolteachers in the US should be paid more. i also wish truancy were legalized, because school killed my enjoyment of so many subjects. and if i were required to take CS classes as a child I would probably have become Uncle Ted

actually a technical easy way to reduce squatting: you choose the value of your domain and you pay an X% tax on it. if someone wants to take it from you, they can bid Y% over the value of the domain which triggers a public bidding war over it.
politically it's impossible tho

Itβs hard to understand how much poorer Americans were during the Great Depression, but as one example, entire families had to share access to one Personal Computer that sat in the βfamily room.β The broadband speeds were also terrible, below 3G even.

When I canvas on Nextdoor, I try to carefully guide the Volk into realizing that they're being racist without outright saying it! This involves passively questioning their values with koans and phrases that will stick with them after the conversation, like "these Venezuelans love Big Bang Theory"

In general a lot of moderate liberals find it very annoying that leftists, radical liberals, and libertarians all end up at open borders, missing the "obvious" middle ground position, but the thing is that if you examine the issue at all, borders are pretty damn hard to actually justify
