Yes ahah, that is very much the vibe! The game does actually operate on dice rolls under the hood, we absolutely looked back at the genre's TTRPG roots for inspo.

Overall I'm totally stoked about the merc system. It's really fun to hire new weird guys and then see them get butchered by a lowly bandit 🥲

I mean it's a theme, but dying earth is a genre that encompasses Jack Vance's work as well as other novels like Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun - but yeah, Jack Vance is an inspiration!

Yeah, so we've tried to walk a middle line between traditional JRPGs, and tactical games like FF: Tactics, Battle Brothers, Banner Saga etc...
So there are two rows; front defends the back, but only ranged can attack from the back. Grid based like you say. Reposition takes a turn... etc.
