presumably this house was built on farmland at the time. the next house built on this block would be 50 years later in 1898.

so many of portland’s buildings pre-1870 were knocked down, it’s special to have a couple oldies like this. these build dates start to rival manhattan.

according to portland maps data this is the oldest standing building in the city!! tho at the time of construction it wouldn’t have been in the city proper, and oregon wasn’t even a state until 11 years later.
