My life is based on a true story. West Galway once, Waterford for a while, Dublin for decades. Today is my favourite day.

Read Portnoy late in life, after absorbing lots of articles and reviews, about Roth, and couldn't believe how good it was, and how funny.

That literary fiction should include illustrations (not necessarily deliberately linked to the words).

I'm in that happy state, Declan, but the pile keeps growing.

Saw him on Dawson Street in early 90s. Accompanied by his hair and some Irish big name. Maybe Banville.

Seamus Heaney’s Ribbons: A beautiful poem about his sisters, published for the first time The reader is transported by Heaney’s illuminating memory: we’re in a school, a photographer is visiting and the girls are having their picture taken

A previously unpublished poem by Seamus Heaney, along with an essay by Rosie Lavan, giving the context for the poem.
I will be speaking to Rosie and Bernard O'Donoghue, co-editors of The Poems of Seamus Heaney, at The Source Arts Centre, Thurles, on Nov. 1st.

The university library in Galway had copies of The New Review in the mid-70s, which were read and reread avidly by those of us interested in new writing. McEwan's early stories are what I remember best. It was my favourite magazine in the library.

You've done a marvellous job in the libraries, Jackie, especially in raising awareness of all that's there. Hope the next instalment goes great, too.

Julia Roberts to narrate new BBC series Leonard and Hungry Paul The feel-good series follows two board-gaming friends in their thirties who meander through leafy suburban life finding solace in their quiet routines

It's true! Julia Roberts will be narrating Leonard and Hungry Paul.

She read the book when it came out and her agent got in touch to say she really liked it. But I never thought things would go this far.

Delighted.

For decades, I’ve thought Rain on the Wind by Walter Macken would translate well to screen, and the very expensive storm part could now probably be done by CGI. Preferably a non-American director who grew up near the sea.

And, given that she was assumed into Heaven in corporeal form, where does she go to the toilet? Or is there special manna or similar?

No idea, RΓ³nΓ‘n - @jacqbetula just wasn't there when I checked a while back. I hope it's just a break due to his work being so busy. (I initially thought you were referencing something in Belle and Sebastian's We Rule the School. :))
