Hey @wilwheaton.net, I just finished listening to your audiobook performance of Ready Player One (yes, I'm behind) . I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed your work bringing this story to life. It was a nice escape from the world, my own OASIS vacation. Rock on!

The best art makes an immediate difference in the world. The book banners are LOSING THEIR MINDS about these because they have no way to ban or stop them. So print and share away!

But it makes me wonder how much real writers steal, if they do at all? I'm sure they are influenced by other works to the extent that similar elements of their muse make it into their own work, they're just much more subtle about what they're lifting. They lift themes; they don't rip off the work.

I stole the look of a character from some commissioned art posted on the internet, and I think I watched a sword fighting scene and stole the action. "It's fanfiction and will never be published" is chiefly the thought.

Where did that creativity go? Maybe it was drowned in the reluctance to steal. Revolutionary Girl Utena chiefly inspired my friend, where they lifted the sky rose garden and the gender-fluid protagonist. I stole her characters, a couple dresses from Sailor Moon, and armor from Magic Knight Rayearth.

I read a 74-page fanfiction of a friend's fanfiction I wrote in high school, and it wasn't that bad! I mean, it had its problems, but after the over-drama, cliches, and teenage angst giggles, I enjoyed the read. I wrote for myself back then and wasn't too bad at it. Where did that kid go?

It hit me real hard too. I watched the ghoul bangers and Rite Here Rite Now until I got back to coping.

The laundry list of tasks is depleting rapidly. I need to finish the lining on the arms (probably by hand), finish the bottom, create a button hole (by hand) and attach the button. Oh, and iron.

Ugh complete defeat. I messed up the collar and lost about a day's worth of work. I'm not the kind of person who will hand over a shoddy project, so it just means the rocker jacket won't be done in time for the Ritual. Bummer, but it's okay. We have the Unholy Poncho. We're still going to have fun.

I'm so excited. Despite everything not being exactly perfect, this is shaping up to be an amazing jacket. Step 26 of 42, 16 steps left. 11 days. If I do two steps a day, I'll finish ahead of schedule. I'm so ready to see the end result!

I am pretty mild-mannered person, but the way we celebrate this holiday is so intrusive that I genuinely want to commit violence. (I'm not a Karen. I'm doing deep breathing exercises and don't own a gun.) It sounds like a rapid-fire cannon is going off next to me. I want to punch somebody.

Ahhh, the Fourth of July, where people set off flashy, noxious chemicals in the air and have no respect for obnoxious noise pollution; where animals hide or are drugged for their safety, fire risk skyrockets (heh) and hospitals triple their workload trying to heal the bigger idiots who didn’t duck.

I've been sinking into Discworld. I just finished the Vimes arc and am hanging out with Moist Von Lipwig. It's a bittersweet comfort.
