I like making things and finding stories. I feel it's important to understand that things are just complicated sometimes. 毎日の事には美がある。 Cat mom. Quad skates! 地衣類と変形菌が大好き!💖 Trans, despite everything. She/her. (アメリカでの) AM 日本語、PM English

07.11.2025 15:28 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I’ve always been fond of saber-toothed tigers, ever since I received a hand-me-down long sleeve T-shirt with one printed in extra thick puff paint. But tiger-sized spiders? I knew bugs got big before the cretaceous, but not that big!
(Also yes I know they weren’t tigers and spiders aren’t bugs.)

09.10.2025 20:12 — 👍 7 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0There is a whole unfortunate thing where Japanese media in the west isn‘t available in Japanese, or if it’s video, has Japanese audio but no native subtitles.
So far the best options I’ve found without a VPN are Netflix (only the stuff they sponsored) and, for manga, Kinokuniya.
AI stuff feels opposite. Much AI art has the form of traditional art - you get drawings, videos, etc - but without an artists' intention.
As is the case with sampling, there's less perceived craft. There's not, however, the intent behind it. There's no artist.
It's art shaped, but is not art
This feels of a piece with the modern movements expanding the question of what art is, though if inverted
Compare to Duchamp's "Fountain" in which something that is NOT typical art is presented as such, by intention and setting
It isn't art-shaped, but is art
The "liberals have to learn how to live with people we diagree with" line kinda stops making sense in a world where the central disagreement is whether disagreeing with them should be allowed at all

The Updated policy currently going into effect Oct 15 could fuck that up and we should be very vocal about it. Here are some specific things to mention in feedback (THREAD)

Another photo from my San Francisco trip: I don’t know the plant (iNat says Arbutus / strawberry tree) but I was tickled by this whimsical inflorescence.
