i don’t think “they weren’t ready” is as good of an excuse as you do. this was an obvious inevitability that they clearly were not ready for. why is that acceptable?

do you think that’s what’s the waymos did? stopping at random traffic lights and not being able to get out of the way of emergency responders? the requirement for human drivers would be to obey orders from police or firefighters, why is it acceptable for that standard to be lower for waymos?

i really don’t see what other people’s emergency preparedness has to do with the safety requirements we set for a 100+ billion dollar company to operate a fleet of driverless cars.
