In relation to the tech industry in particular it is effectively no different than a republican state govt.

On a personal level I think the piece is really dumb and demonstrates the ignorance of some affluent professions, professionals and graduates of certain high esteem universities vs the lives of a majority of people but that’s not an argument or kind.

Currently the piece fails to consider that at all with its arguments and it is somewhat underwhelming. It would be nice to have a longer more complete article that does due service to the arguments considering more points of view.

There are many people who would be more fulfilled pursuing their hobbies like hiking or craft or other things all week than their current job. There is also many who are prevented from doing any hobby/activity they prefer due to the poor state of their job. A well regulated ubi would change that.

I don’t mean that as a criticism but rather a statement that in my mind as a college educated person my job is much closer to a hobby to me than what a industrial worker or service industry workers is. That’s likely also true for the writer. The problem is the piece extends it universally.

After thinking more about this piece and reading it again I feel like it’s a good attempt to demonstrate a point but instead demonstrates a disconnect. That is to say that the definition of work used here is the idea a college educated non physical labor professional has of it.

On my part I have multiple siblings who are industrial workers at at a iron mill along with two that are pipeline welders. All as far as I know would prefer to spend 7 days a week on a lake or hiking trails.

Yeah, difficult taking a journalist’s take on this seriously when there is millions in the hard labor and service industries who’s lives are not being fulfilled by their jobs but rather turned into toil.
