Writing about some disturbing horror films and reminded again how THE VANISHING, INSIDE, and MARTYRS all got American remakes that completely and utterly undermine the originals by wimping out with their endings.

People said my love for kid deaths in horror would stop when my daughter was born, but they were wrong. Not sure anything could make me move on from the genre as a whole, but maybe personal experience could source certain exploitation subgenres?

Finally. My most anticipated film of 2025. #NowWatching

Yeah, BARBARIAN (2022) still has me smiling from start to finish. Beautifully crafted, great cast, constantly surprising, and just pitch perfect control of tone. Justin Long, like the film itself, is perfection.

MATERIALISTS (2025) - More artificial in its construct than PAST LIVES, but it's every bit as honest about both love and "love." Sweet and ugly, hopeful and cynical, Celine Song's appreciation for the inherent messiness of human relationships continues. And i love hearing Dakota Johnson say "poor."
