Like I don't understand fans who for some reason, as tweens in 1987, were like, "No, Golobulus is a bridge too far. The giant screaming serpent demon under Destro's castle, though, that's canon."

Episodes 93 and 94 feature the Joes facing *literal monsters*, a giant ancient creature, some genetic monstrosities — this stuff is *part of the franchise* and had been from the beginning (Ramar the inexplicable giant, the Fatal Fluffies). Cobra-La is not a stretch. It's the next step.

If you watch the movie as episodes 96-100 of the Sunbow series (which it essentially is), it is the natural conclusion — the only option, an obvious heightening — that's perfect for a *feature film* version of the series.

The reason I harp on this so much is because the almost performative dismissal of the '87 movie conveys to me a fundamental misunderstanding of *what GI Joe was*

Basically, I'm ready for the Joe content creators who were 10+ when GI Joe The Movie came out to give way to those of us who were 3-9 years old in 1987.

The opening credits immediately followed by Pythona's break-in and the Cobra top brass mutiny, immediately into the BET battle. The first 20 minutes of that movie is A+. And it doesn't relent IMO.

GI Joe fans who hate the 1987 movie are just holding on to a bunch of wrong opinions formed because they were trying to act too old/cool/smart for the movie as a kid. You can change your opinions.

There are no critiques of that movie that actually hold any water.

Also, love how with a cast of four, I can think of one on one scenes / moments between every combination of those four that capture their dynamic perfectly. It’s rich.

So I don’t know — maybe that’s a success because it made me seriously consider the themes of the movie!

Mostly spent the movie, after Sue’s speech, thinking about how I invite everyone in but keep them at arm’s length still, just in case their love is conditional.

Saw FF finally and I have a lot of feelings that I will channel into buying comics
