Over time I've become more receptive to elements that are silly and fun. In the past I believed that such elements would work against the seriousness of the narrative and was very stubborn about that. Incidentally, Nier Automata was instrumental in giving me the realization that I was wrong.

Ghost Song was originally created as a different game in a different engine before I scrapped almost everything about it and started over in 2019. The original version was different in quite a few ways, but to sum it up it was darker, edgier, and had a silent protagonist.

my pet project that I may or may not ever make is a fantasy beatemup rpg. Sometimes I doodle ideas for it. #gamedev For a bit I was considering making it my main project, but I felt that business-wise beatemups are too risky to create unless you have a popular ip attached. #art #characterdesign

the animations in GS were in most cases made in Spine 2D, which allows 2D images to be manipulated in real time using a bone system. The Silver Sun again uses this, however I'm substituting in more traditionally animated drawings as needed to get a better result.

I made a 2d model (like in Ghost Song) that makes things very dynamic. Unlike GS, however, is that I switch to traditionally animated frames when needed to make the posing more exciting. Ie, these weapon attacks are all traditionally animated #gamedev #indiedev #madewithunity #madewithspine

thank you very much! the lightning in ghost song is actually pretty primitive for the most part, using a lot of gradient textures and occasionally some basic lit materials. I'd like for it to have been more dynamic to be honest!

spent the past day trying to improve the look of Yuki's dress a bit. Tricky getting it to move right.
Also -you'll see this soon enough- she can equip various weapons, hold them, swing them, etc.

I'm using spine, though I use it in ways that I feel like go against the way it was designed to be used. I'm mixing in aspects of traditional animation (not seen in this clip though) to attempt to avoid the paper doll look as much as possible

I won't be calling it a metroidvania, though it may have a few metroidvania-like things in it, it's not how I view it. It's more like a brawler rpg with side scrolling areas and an overworld
