Yep. And while Kozinskiโ€™s legal opinions are still precedent, citing his out-of-court thoughts on the appropriate use of power? That does more to undercut than support a personโ€™s argument, as well as their judgment and character.

More than 20 years later, this slide has yet to be relevant to my job, but it has made me look at our cats more skeptically.

I once went to a conference about the investigation of causes of death, and one slide showed what happened when a cat owner died and no humans noticed soon enough.

Wait. I donโ€™t remember whether that cat was supposed to be one of the โ€œgoodโ€ villains in the story. Iโ€™m also pretty sure the author has disowned the photo because itโ€™s AI generated and he doesnโ€™t want that in his covers.

Point still stands. Dude looks like a villainous cat.

I know. Unfair to cats.

Hey. @nytimes.com, thereโ€™s a word for when the government takes a percentage of what you earn. Itโ€™s called a โ€œtax.โ€

Thanks for posting. I liked the first season, and wasnโ€™t aware the second had started. If itโ€™s awful, Iโ€™ll only waste 15 minutes like you did. FWIW, I like reading arguments between a showโ€™s fans.

Now I have to watch it. I admit that it seems odd to not watch a series because a non-lead character is portrayed wrong, but I know Iโ€™m super annoyed by how the LOTR movies portray Faramir and Thรฉoden, but other people donโ€™t mind it given how nearly perfect the movieโ€™s casting is.

What do client red flags prompt you to do? Decline representation? Charge more knowing it will be more work? Plan your representation differently? Something else?

Some centrist and conservative Ds are beclowning themselves in the way they criticize him. So what if you oppose rent control and want lower taxes? Those are things people can reasonably argue about. But people canโ€™t reasonably argue about the relative integrity of Mamdani, Cuomo & Adams.

Nobodyโ€™s perfect. Nobody will do in office exactly what you want them to do, but Mamdani:
1) is a competent politician
2) wonโ€™t steal from the public
3) wonโ€™t take bribes
4) wonโ€™t be a patsy to Trump, ICE, & the NYPD
5) wonโ€™t prey on the women around him.

Scream at the phone to get to a human being faster? In a rational world, it would be the opposite. The thing that frustrates me is that the whole reason Iโ€™m calling is that I have an issue that falls outside of the normal decision-making tree I could follow online.

I sometimes read the hidden comments. Or, more accurately, peek at them. One disadvantage to hiding comments is that it can highlight them for some, but itโ€™s worth it to keep the flow of conversation on topic and relatively civil. People who go to hidden comments effectively leave the conversation.

One of the few progressive things (only progressive thing?) Trump did during his first term was massively increase the standard deduction, so now the mortgage deduction only helps owners of the most expensive homes, not even all homeowners.

Maybe the biggest difference between modern presidents whoโ€™ve done horrible things & our current one is a sense of shame. Whether actually felt or not, Nixon, W & Clinton all showed that they understand shame. Maybe not enough or for the right things, but they knew shame existed. Trump is shameless.

Riffing on the OPโ€™s username, in the Peace Corps, our little paperback library had what I think was a complete set of Blackford Oakes spy novels by William F. Buckley. I tore through them. That, and British versions of Steinbeck novels are what I most remember reading.
