And just to clarify SSDI payments are only for those people who have worked and paid into the system. If you were born disabled or became disabled before you could work (or didn’t work enough) you only qualify for SSI, which is Supplemental Security Income. The lowest amount.

The SSI payout for 2025 is $967/mo for an individual. Imagine trying to pay rent, utilities, groceries, gas, etc with that little amount of money each month. These people are not living it up.

Like, how much do you think SSI/SSDI payments are? A fair number of my clients get less than working a full time 40 hr/wk job at the federal minimum wage.
