I always find silence more powerful on the radio than TV. Maybe because it spares me sights of ‘dignitaries’ using events for self-promotion.

I’d been RD the past two years. Glad it was a former serviceman yesterday. I could talk the talk, but he’d walked the walk.

These weren’t busy city streets at commuter o’clock. This was a seafront walkway on a weekend morning. Civilians just aren’t keen on sportspeople invading their space. Yet they’re only out for a scenic stroll, as it’s a road with nothing on it for a couple of miles (other than bars in summer).

I’m on the core team at Severn Bridge parkrun, in Chepstow. I live 20 miles away but have been made aware of its military connections. We always hold a minute’s silence the Saturday before Remembrance Sunday. Sometimes being an exception is no bad thing. Indeed, it often isn’t.

(I was recently in the town where I grew up & my parents still live. Different traffic to Rome. What infuriates me the most, but no longer surprises me, is pedestrians walking two or three abreast who don’t fall into single file when I run towards them, forcing me onto the road with cars behind me.)

That’s unfair on Rome, singling it out like that. It’s no different anywhere else in Italy. 😆

Always a pleasure to have you sprinkle my Sunday mornings with beauties I wouldn’t otherwise encounter. And a pleasure to still see you on here when others treasured their followers too much to leave the toxic site. Such soothing calmness on both counts.

I was dining out in Italy last week, where it is not uncommon to have four courses: starter, pasta, meat/fish, dessert. Always with bread around.
Yet Italy doesn’t have an obesity crisis.
Maybe tweaking habits isn’t a bad thing and needn’t put more pressure on the hospitality sector?

Whatever one’s views about 80s and 90s UK party leaders, and notwithstanding the digital dimension to today’s communications, I have long maintained that those leaders would all wipe the floor with the current crop.

I see the Strava app now displays details of the device on which the activity was recorded in the feed summary.
Which is ever so slightly ironic, given that the brand Strava recently attacked is (on my feed, anyway) the name that appears the most…

Visited my parents in the town in Italy where I grew up.
Should have told the staff in a local bar that abbreviating ‘analcolico’ (“alcohol-free”) in a touristy town is not a good idea.

When a ball over the top is that precise and the wife player cuts in so effectively, tika-taka and playing out from the back are put into perspective. Ultimately I’d always rather my team had the ball, but that’s because my team seldom play passes like Stones did there.

…then again, to be fair, I am in bed reading. But that’s just to not interfere with Mrs S’ enjoyment of the dancing tellybox thing.
