26 years ago, I learnt to go with the flow in the US when ordering pizza by the slice. I learnt by asking for a whole pizza (remember where I grew up) & spending the next 90’ ploughing through it when I should have been seeing the N.Y.C. sights. But last night’s in Washington was… different gravy.

Whoops… it was 21 miles… and I had to push at the end to finish them before midnight…

Took me a while to remember the context…
…ah yes… me going for a late run to clinch the final 10 miles to make it a 1,000km month…
…the peak of madness in terms of my monthly mileage. No intention to challenge it. Ever.

I was in Italy at the turn of the month and they were just as excited as we were. At the time there were still two Italian sides in it, not that I ever understood the criteria for admission into the competition. I have never known such disinterest for football in Italy.

Not saying the Club World Cup didn’t quite catch the public imagination, but the radio bulletin reported the England v Wales result in the Women’s Euros but made no mention of Chelsea-PSG…
