As an English teacher, the change I’ve seen in kids most particularly in the last 2-3 years is terrifying. Little knowledge of anything beyond TikTok and ChatGPT. No hinterland of any kind. Makes it a lot harder to make a difference with them when you have to go back to those basics so late.

That is an outstanding list.
As an Irishman, there are a few movies about the War of Independence and the Troubles that would fit nicely.
The Outsider (1979), say. Behind the Mask (1991).
If you havent seen them, both fascinating in different ways...

Necropolis was in 2000AD in an era when I wasn’t reading it and I never caught up. Well: I just have. Glorious. John Wagner is the man. Ezquerra is without parallel. Judge Dredd is my favourite fascist by far.

I always thought that the Dylan incident from DON’T LOOK BACK freed him to move beyond those silly comparisons and do his own thing. That’s when the psychedelic and rock classics that have endured were all written and recorded.

Why Thomas Arslan’s “Trojan Trilogy” are invisible in the UK I have no idea because it is superb. No Cinematic release, no DVD. This (Pt 2, 14 years on from Im Schatten) came today from German Amazon and it is absolutely superb. A Berlin Stark directed by Michael Mann, sorta. Recommended.

Lir! One of many “next U2” bands that Dublin threw up in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Their manager ran away with their advance & they still have to reform every year or two to play gigs to pay the debt. This was their last single - bit of a britpop influence (earlier stuff is more grunge psychedelia). Tune!

See I think explaining Amy Racecar was the wrong call - one of the best things about the elliptical non-linear approach was the ambiguity around so many things. And then he spent a lot of time explaining. But this is all details: it’s a great series, even when it’s a bit uneven.

I think the first 11-15 issues is one of the greatest runs ever. It loses focus and the quality dips after that. Still great, just not quite so perfect. His storytelling choices are always superb.
