YouTube video by akis cherokee Bono & Gavin Friday - In The Name Of The Father

Always loved the way this united some Irish trad music with industrial & even dancey vibes + managed to celebrate Irishness & reference the events of the movie for which it was composed at the same time. And it absolutely rocks. One of the best things Bono ever did.

I always think with Conan it's all in the cheekbones. If an artist gets those right, it'll look like Conan. Chandler: Conan cheekbones.

As an English teacher, the change I’ve seen in kids most particularly in the last 2-3 years is terrifying. Little knowledge of anything beyond TikTok and ChatGPT. No hinterland of any kind. Makes it a lot harder to make a difference with them when you have to go back to those basics so late.

That is an outstanding list.
As an Irishman, there are a few movies about the War of Independence and the Troubles that would fit nicely.
The Outsider (1979), say. Behind the Mask (1991).
If you havent seen them, both fascinating in different ways...

Necropolis was in 2000AD in an era when I wasn’t reading it and I never caught up. Well: I just have. Glorious. John Wagner is the man. Ezquerra is without parallel. Judge Dredd is my favourite fascist by far.

I always thought that the Dylan incident from DON’T LOOK BACK freed him to move beyond those silly comparisons and do his own thing. That’s when the psychedelic and rock classics that have endured were all written and recorded.

Why Thomas Arslan’s β€œTrojan Trilogy” are invisible in the UK I have no idea because it is superb. No Cinematic release, no DVD. This (Pt 2, 14 years on from Im Schatten) came today from German Amazon and it is absolutely superb. A Berlin Stark directed by Michael Mann, sorta. Recommended.

Blur Studio's title sequence for Fincher's GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO is just astonishing. Like a nightmare version of a Bond title scene. Couple that with the Reznor reimagining of Immigrant Song with Karen O: all timer.

A β˜…β˜…β˜…Β½ review of Rogue Male (1976) Geoffrey Household's source novel is one of the great adventure stories, influencing David Morrell when he wrote First Blood and therefore having an outsized, indirect effect on late 20th century pop culture (though I'd be willing to bet the likes of Robert Ludlum and Lee Child have read it). This adaptation sort of takes the adventure out of it, drains it of thrills, and instead turns it into a brilliantly acidic little drama with some thriller elements. Frederic Raphael's screenplay is the key component in that, giving some excellent British character actors lots to do (Pinter, Sim and Standing all

A β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… review of For a Few Dollars More (1965) Just gonna rhapsodise because this is cinema: three great actors with immortal faces (VolontΓ© here is the greatest villain in the Dollars trilogy) facing off in the movie where Leone, visibly more confident, finally became himself. Frame by frame, cut by cut, this film is sublime. Leone is remembered for many things but one of them is that he was a great cinematic stylist who was also a great cinematic storyteller. Too few of those in cinema history, although Westerns has more than its fair share. Loads of gags; some visual, some on the soundtrack, some in teh dialogue. An

Lir! One of many β€œnext U2” bands that Dublin threw up in the β€˜80s and β€˜90s. Their manager ran away with their advance & they still have to reform every year or two to play gigs to pay the debt. This was their last single - bit of a britpop influence (earlier stuff is more grunge psychedelia). Tune!

Matt Damon Says Netflix Wants Movies to Restate the β€˜Plot Three or Four Times in the Dialogue’ Because Viewers are on β€˜Their Phones While They’re Watching’ Matt Damon says Netflix wants movies to restate 'the plot three or four times in the dialogue' to account for viewers using their phones.

This explains a lot about how the movie turned out. On the other hand, it explains a lot about how the movie turned out. It also explains a lot about how the movie turned out.

See I think explaining Amy Racecar was the wrong call - one of the best things about the elliptical non-linear approach was the ambiguity around so many things. And then he spent a lot of time explaining. But this is all details: it’s a great series, even when it’s a bit uneven.

I think the first 11-15 issues is one of the greatest runs ever. It loses focus and the quality dips after that. Still great, just not quite so perfect. His storytelling choices are always superb.

A β˜…β˜…β˜… review of Under Suspicion (1991) Young Liam Neeson flexing his leading man muscles for one of the first times and he is well cast: heroic but with a hint of darkness, irresistible to women but able to handle himself. He plays a P.I. in 1950s Brighton (which serves up some atmospheric locations) who specialises in faking affairs for husbands seeking divorces until one of his faked stings becomes a murder scene, with his wife a victim. Cue an investigation, an affair with a femme fatale (San Giacomo, miscast), a few red herrings, numerous '90s sex scenes and a big twist. Writer-director Moore had a bit
