I went in 2005 as a guest for their Board meeting, with Kent Weeks, their US legal counsel at the time (& former MNPS superintendent)… we went to church together (West End UMC) and I was the lay leader on global missions

I’d never heard of USAID before then. He persuasively argued USAID support was a critical form of humanitarian assistance but also smart diplomacy

The wild thing for me about this story is that I visited Africa University 20 years ago and sat at a commencement next to the head of USAID for southern Africa (1/2)
