However, I could do something because it's a large grant, and there should be more general awareness for this issue. It should not just be left to funder/PI or whoever, but a general recognition that some research can be psychologically extremely demanding.

This is so much more important than we acknowledge. The funding body in my current project made me set up a retraumatization protocol for interlocutors being interviewed, but not for the people doing the actual research (and having much in common with interlocutors), so I tried to do something.

Let's be clear: Starving a child who is sick doesn't make it less horrific. They are being denied healthy food and medical care. Another girl named Rahaf, 12, who also had medical conditions and was severely malnourished is doing so much better now that she was evacuated. Fadi, who has CF, also gained weight when evacuated treated. Every child deserves to be fed, loved, and cared for. No exceptions.

It's a waste of breath to argue this point with people that literally don't care, but the entire structure of genocide as a crime distinct from "war crime" is that prevention is supposed to kick in LONG BEFORE it actually happens

The genocide in Gaza has been so revealing of the narrow imagined geographies of past atrocities among some. The ignorance of how different forms of genocidal intent and practice were deployed across a whole range of colonial contexts has been central to the effort to dismiss the use of the term.

This last distinction is such an important distinction in many conflict zones I would say.

Theirs is the moralistic argument, it's just that their moralistic argument is the same as the old colonial one: that the progress of "civilization" justifies all its victims.
