Glossy Ibis on wet grassland that is used as a paddock so a fence post and electric fencing can be seen. It is about Little Egret sized and has a down curved bill. It is black ish from a distance.
Titchfield: 6 Glossy Ibis still in the horse field by St Peter's Church. Other #FootIt additions today include Pintail & Chiffs. #LowCarbonBirding #PWC2026 @birdguides.bsky.social
08.01.2026 09:53 β π 56 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Greenfinch, Treecreeper and Goldcrest added for #footit in the last few days. Up to 52 species. It's a loong way to 78! (In 2013 I was self employed and had a quiet month in Jan before working all Feb so I walked sooo far!). #yorkshirebirding
08.01.2026 09:20 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0At least 7 Hawfinch at Rhiwderin now, in trees near the βswimming pondβ at c.ST263868. Also 15+ Greenfinch, Treecreeper, etc. #gwentbirding #lowcarbonbirding #footit
08.01.2026 10:24 β π 12 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Back to work today. Still managed to boost the #FootIt total by 1 to 87, with overhead Pink-footed Geese heard at 5.45pm on my 10 metre commute from the office to the back door.
05.01.2026 21:12 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Only time for short pre work walk from home today. Beautiful light over the Exe Estuary. Crisp underfoot.
I noticed two distant Tufted Duck flying up river as I returned. Less than annual on my home patch and a lovely addition to #FootIt (number 89).

Back to work this week, so fewer chances to walk or watch from the house. Current #FootIt total is 60 species. Pretty happy with that, six days in. Highlights have been White-tailed Eagle and Kingfisher. My seen within 25k of the house is at a respectable 88. With Common Scoter and WF Goose best.

Needed to pick up waterproof reproofing spray.
Ran to Cotswold Outdoor, ran around some fields, saw Skylarks, Linnets & Stonechats for #FootIt, ran home. Back at my desk.
#FootIt 2026 now at 92.
My Devon year list is 98 = dedication to birding on foot.

Full day of Foot It from pre-dawn tomorrow... there will be damage #FootIt #Damage
thewrongtimebirding.blogspot.com/2026/01/foot...
Still not brave enough to run on the icy pavements so Bert π and I walked through Exeter suburbs to reach an unassuming stream.
Found at least 2 Green Sandpipers but couldnβt find a Dipper. Jay, Chiffchaffs & Siskin also new for year, moving #FootIt total to 88.
#LowCarbonBirding #BirdingOnFoot
A distractingly beautiful morning meant I couldn't resist a much longer walk from home than planned. Siskins *everywhere* glowing in the low sun. Lapwing and Golden Plover flocks going over bring #footit total to 47 species.
05.01.2026 19:02 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Second Foot It blog of this campaign, before I add another half day of damage. You are most welcome...

Beautiful day to be out & about around the Exe Estuary.
Day 4 of #FootIt & as expected the pace of new bird species is slowing up locally.
Todayβs additions were golden (Goldeneye & Golden Plover) plus Kestrel & Pheasant. Foot It list stands at 84.
Tomorrowβs plan is to run to some new sites.
My third Foot It day of the year. Severe hype and chafing - in that orderβ¦

04.01.2026 19:54 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 058 species on a 9.4 km walk from home this morning with the dog. To start the #footit challenge.
Marsh Harrier, Stonechat (3) Great black backed gull (2) GWE and Snipe being the goodies.
White-fronted Geese on Bowling Green Marsh
I set this morning intending to head to the commons to find Dartford Warbler etc for my #LowCarbonBirding #FootIt list.
But I soon changed my plans due to ice βοΈ & kept to the estuary.
22k run & 5 new #FootIt bird species (total 75).
Stopped by BGM to see 23 WF Geese.

A chilly walk round the parish with a cold weather movement of snipe, blackbirds and song thrush. Also added wigeon, teal, kestrel and buzzard #footit
03.01.2026 13:46 β π 8 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Handheld phone-scoped image of a Hawfinch at a distance of c.250m.
A potter round produced a goody. Hawfinch(!) at Rhiwderin, initially flying around with a small flock of Chaffinch near the βswimming pondβ at c.ST263868 (adjacent to the Yellowthroat site), later sat up for high quality handheld phone-scoping shenanigans. #gwentbirding #lowcarbonbirding #footit
03.01.2026 13:50 β π 21 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Elevated footbridge over a river. The way is barred by a sign reading 'FOOTPATH CLOSED'
Out the front door, then almost 5 hrs investigating footpaths and habitat mainly on W side of Axminster. Pleasantly surprised at potential. Among 42 spp recorded were a few not particularly expected, like Green Sandpiper, Kingfisher, Stock Dove, Treecreeper, etc...
It's a start.

Beautiful end to the day. Walked a short distance up river to look for Goosander. Bingo! One red-head under the M5 bridge.
And then I sat on a step and watched the sun set.
Ended the day on 80 species of bird for #FootIt.
