No, he *was*, but clearly wasn't something he actually believed in, it was just something to fuel his ego, just like becoming PM to achieve absolutely nothing he believed in, just a game to him.

I'm not completely sure they thought it through, I'd be happy to embrace this, transferring money to your daughter *once a year* would be great! Making it a specific day means every request gets answered with "you need to wait until October 6th..."

Always the case no - kids tend to have a lot more intertwined social circles so the closed groups are small in number. Older folk are still keeping up with multiple less bisecting groups - different works, friends from uni, relatives etc. Which is harder in closed environments, and more passive.

Life expectancy at 67 is 85 and 88 respectively, life expectancy at birth isn't as relevant for this, the high child mortality are having entirely different impacts on the costs here.

They're not opposed, the state pension is too generous for those with large DC pensions, and large DC pensions exist because of the very generous tax treatment on them. It's mostly that pensioners are taxed too low, those who got rich with the help of artificially low tax rates get to keep the gains

Rachel Reeves invested a lot of time saying it was a terrible idea when it was Hunt's policy, so despite it being so sensible, can't see any hope of her ego allowing her to face the questions.

I have a slight problem with the hypothesis though, why would these people be choosing to be 18-29, the pollsters pay more for the older professional groups rather than the young - 'cos they're over-represented - If you're doing it for the payback, be a 55year old purchasing manager?

It's not surprising though is it, smart speakers and wearables have been the number one profitable business ever since the apple homepod and google glass hit the market all those years ago. And Amazon Alexa brings in amazing profits, you can see why others want in.

Prime Minister sets out blueprint to turbocharge AI Artificial intelligence will deliver a decade of national renewal, as part of a new plan announced today (13 January 2025).

The UK government said 1.5% productivity growth was already coming without this investment www.gov.uk/government/n... So another 1.9% sounds completely believable absolutely.

AI could boost UK economy by 10% in 5 years, says Microsoft boss Boss Satya Nadella said it was the biggest investment the firm had made outside of the US.

this is an absolutely staggering dereliction of journalistic duty by @zsk.bsky.social and the BBC. It poo-poos away all the criticism of AI hype and the downsides of data centres in favour of breathless, unfounded predictions by every booster. You're making people dumber

What evidence could've been provided that Starmer would've used to change his mind - remember Starmer has claimed that had Mandelson told the truth to him he would not have made him the ambassador. This is not an HR situation, pretending that it is does everyone a disservice.

How have you controlled for the exodus in support for the respective parties, both parties have polled over 50% individually at some part of that graph but are now polling barely 37% between them. You're not exactly comparing the same people?

Tribute to one of the best Eurovision songs of recent years - "That hairy coat of yours with nothing underneath
Not sure you have a name, so I will call you Keith" - presumably the spelling is for SEO purposes.

People who think politics is a sport and want to support their team need something to talk about that they think is positive, and Starmer is *so* bad, this is the best they've got. They're not actually impressed, but they have a deep seated need to delude themselves that they are.

chatgpt is much like an improv comedy group

1) you are the audience, giving it prompts
2) it produces things roughly shaped like your prompt
3) it is trained to respond with Yes, And
4) it has the factual accuracy of improv
5) it does not understand comedy

Controlling for age effect is going to see most of this disappear though surely? Old voters change allegiance much less than young, willing to identify to pollsters totally different between age groups.

You just bring in a law requiring the city to provide housing, let them take over private dwellings, seems obvious and I'm sure there's no precedent where it's caused problems before, a quick quartering bill and all is sorted.
