finally, the most important piece of knowledge that I ended up with is that you don't need to make yourself be something specific to be worthy of love, you just need to learn to love yourself as you are. what a person is is out of your control, but how kind you are to that person is not. love you.

...and so I finish my journey exactly where I started: just kinda feeling like me, but without the questions that used to plague me. trying to figure myself out and fitting into a category is just too much to think about. I guess the answer that I ultimately found is that there is no answer.

my final remark about gender identity: despite my best efforts, I've found that not a single label I try to put on myself suits me. not man, not woman, not trans, not non-binary, none of it. sometimes I feel more masculine, sometimes I feel more feminine, but most of the time I just feel like manta.

I like music that makes me feel strong emotions. but when the emotions clash with each other (and it's not in a way that's carefully constructed by the artist to elicit a certain emotional response for an actual artistic reason) it's very off-putting.

all my life I've never been able to make myself a good playlist... my taste in music incorporates way too many different moods not to give me tonal whiplash and as a result I feel myself appreciating each song a lot less. they just don't mix. I'd rather listen to an album!

A conclusion I came to is that these men feel like most people (including the “mass media”) don’t take the time — or have no interest in taking the time — to understand them or where they come from. Valid or not, this seemed to compound their feelings of isolation, which in turn bred a lack of curiosity on their part, furthering their own intolerances.

a painting of the rocky shores of a river, scattered with trees, leaves and other foliage. the painting takes place during autumn. from the perspective of the viewer, we stand on a shore most notably featuring the edge of a maple forest. the leaves are sparse on the trees. across the lake is a peninsula, another shore, with fewer trees, which appear more torn up, as if a storm or some other powerful force ravaged them. finally, in the background is a faint, misty island that can barely be made out. this in particular sparked my curiosity. I used to wish that I could explore that island too. the waters are calm and the sky is blanketed with clouds, white and a light grey, but dark enough to suggest that a storm may be coming.

I was looking through some paintings that we had hung up in our old house. this is my favourite painting. I used to sit on the carpet and stare at it and daydream things about its world. I'm not sure who painted it, I can't make out the signature.
