When I imagined parenting I definitely didn’t imagine yell-mediating an argument between my children in the living room, while attempting to enjoy the peace of using the bathroom on the other end of the house.

I just tossed out a new batch. It just feels wild - they’re just there to get ripped and often the cover on the kids book is identical to the dust jacket, so I don’t get why we do it.

Stop putting dust jackets on children’s books. I beg you.

“Mom you should go. I want to do this myself” is how I find myself sitting in a wait room while I listening to my oldest kiddo chat with his hair stylist about his haircut and what grade 2 is like. 🥹

Annual reminder that people can love pumpkin spice lattes even if you don’t, and you don’t need to consider that an annoying part of their personality.

My mom and dad took my niece and nephew on this amazing trip to Churchill and every time they post pictures I can’t help but feel preeeeeetty jealous.

My youngest wanted to make sure I saw the butterfly he found and I am undone. 🥹

On the list of things I wasn’t ready for in parenting is today’s moment when my 6-year-old heard me say “ouch I cut my hand” and he came to see, then said “wait here” and went to get me an avengers bandaid (black widow) and put it on. 🥹

I can’t fully express the joy of having our windows open for the last 48 hours straight with no air quality warnings or heat warnings. Excuse me while I fall asleep to beautiful rain, perfect temps, and no smoke.

Before I had my own kids, I “had” other people’s kids that I called my own. As a youth pastor of 10 years I just always referred to each student as my kids. Well tonight one of those kids got married and it was beautiful and magical.

Standing on the front porch with my 3 year old listening to thunder and watching the storm: 10/10.

My 6-year-old and I are off together this week and WOW did we both need the downtime after a summer whirlwind of vacation and day camps.

I fear this conversation we are having now will make it much harder for that to be seen and recognized by anyone.

My sincere hope is all followers of Jesus will join me in doing our best to love God and love our neighbours as ourselves,

of UNDOING our own hostility and ill-treatment to other people groups - a history that we would do well to recognize and repent of.

All of this to say, should there come a time when legitimate hostility and ill-treatment are targeted at the Christian church in Canada,

I can't begin to express how disheartening and honestly embarrassing it is to listen to a conversation about "Christian persecution" in North America on the news as recent events bring it back into light. Persecution is hostility or ill-treatment of a specific group of people.

The most magical thing I’ve seen is my 3-year-old experiencing a play for the first time. Standing with rapt attention and face shifting from delight to concern to laughter all the way through. My GOODNESS that was good for the soul.
