The sentimentality is fairly dated (it was written in 1977), and while he squarely tells you up front, his bias skews fairly directly into English Exceptionalism. Still, a very engaging read; and at 200 pages, extremely accessible.

Almost done with this. Started it yesterday. Filling in a blind spot. David Howarth does an excellent job narrativizing what was quite a brutal affair into a breezy little pop fiction.
