This is me last week playing a simplified piano version of a few bars from a string quartet I wrote (it's in my timeline somewhere). I really like the phrasing in this. Triplets with tied notes to give a syncopated rhythm. Maybe I could've done the notation differently but this works.

Their next step is to remove the right to privacy from human rights law. Labour has already started to gather support for this in Europe. This means trans people's protections under human rights law, and legal path to remedy at ECtHR, would largely be removed, since most come under article 8.

It will be illegal for a service provider to allow a trans woman in a single sex space for women but not illegal for her to be there. Ridiculous!

People should stop thinking about this as a toilets issue. There's always an accessible toilet.

Think communal changing rooms where trans women with vaginas must now undress in front of men. Think women's groups that can no longer lawfully include trans women without also including men.

It's both.

One is about the characteristic of sex the other is about gender reassignment.

Trans men must use the women's because of sex.

Trans men can be excluded from the women's because of gender reassignment.

Service provider must provide a third segregated facility for trans people to use.

Different characteristic at play here. It's sex (birth certificate) that determines which facility a service provider offers to you, and gender reassignment that determines if they should exclude you from that facility.

This ret-con of the Equality Act is Machiavellian in its malevolence.

That law says a person's sex can be reassigned by undergoing a process to change physiological or other attributes of sex.

They get away with it because there is an explicit exception for gender reassignment which was intended to mean a trans man could be excluded, in exceptional circumstances, from the men's room if it was proportionate.

Now that exception has been subverted to exclude him from the women's as well.

The subversion of the Act is what causes it to become incoherent and inconsistent. That needs to be highlighted.

It's absurd to have a characteristic of reassigning sex in an act that defines sex as immutable.

The Act would have to be rewritten or repealed to address this.

This was explicitly stated in the Supreme Court ruling and included in the EHRC's interim guidance.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission pushes the view that if "normal" people are "alarmed" by the presence of another person based on their characteristics then that person should be excluded.

A GRC is not required to reassign sex for the purposes of the Equality Act, based on the definition of gender reassignment in section 7.

S.7 recognises that trans people sex is reassigned by completing all or part of a process to change physiological or other attributes of sex. No GRC required.

If "sex" in EA means "sex written on original birth certificate", and section 7 refers to a process to reassign a person's "sex" by undergoing a process to change physiological or other attributes of sex, then completing all or part of that process must reassign sex for the purposes of the Act.
