1/3 Today in the Federal Register the USFWS is recommending the Barrens Darter, Etheostoma forbesi be listed as Endangered under the Endangered Species Act

They seemed common at both sites we dived in the bay (Aumentos and Metridium Mountain-close to the Monterey bay aquarium). Someone in the boat said that were diseased but I haven’t been able to find research about it.
I hope to get out again today-probably at San Carlos beach.

Odd echinoderms in Monterey Bay on Saturday. Shoals of little sand dollars(sand nickels) @50ft. Also a sea cucumber half off a rock in an L shape. The photo of the exposed part looked extremely red? Also, white diseased urchins everywhere. What’s going on?

I’m working on a project to determine if looking at ocean images could evoke feelings of awe.

🤿 Sunday Monterey dive in the kelp forest. I was pointing my camera up to catch the sunlight through the canopy and wasn’t looking at the screen. I didn’t know a big friend swam over me at the end until I saw the video at home

a shrimp with eyelashes is wearing her little black sneakers and holding a pail of glue and a paintbrush dripping with glue, after clearly just having wheatpasted a poster that says FUCK ELON FUND NOAA on a wall that says "Post no gills" three times. She is smiling a pure little smile and blushing. The posters is dripping with blue too.

Being a rascal is good and pure behavior, when you are rascal in opposition to evil. Don't forget that, kids.

I think I saw the blue one floating around Monterey Bay.

2024 threw in some exciting plot twists and I’m eager to see how the story continues in 2025.
