In 1985, JHHS opened the first overseas Hopper's in Japan. The store was built in the larger big box format. However, JHHS was caught off-guard by Helen's sudden popularity with the Japanese customers. It was alleged that Helen caused a kangaroo craze in the country.

I'm really glad to see so many folks revisiting Anno's Cutie Honey film and I hope that encourages them to check out the original series as well as Re: Cutie Honey. The film's soundtrack and visuals pay homage to the original, which Anno was a huge fan of.

Shingo Araki and Michi Himeno actually did a handful of Honey illustrations but they never get reused. I'm assuming licensing issues, which is a shame.

I'm almost positive Discotek received the same materials AB Groupe did back in the late 80's. And it's not just distributors either. Magazine articles and the such use the same batch of art work.

The worst part? Both illustrations are magnificent but only washed out, grainy copies are used.

I think it's funny but also sad these are the only two official Cutie Honey illustrations Toei gives out for marketing purposes. Everything else is cel art.

I remember the subtitle timer for Devilman made the same joke lol

Fun fact: The first animated appearance of the "Dirty Pair" was in the Crusher Joe movie where the heroes are watching Dirty Pair at a drive-in theatre. As far as I know, Dirty Pair was the first anime to debut not as their own movie/TV show but as an anime being watched by other anime characters.
