When it snows, I can’t think of anything better than reciting a snow poem outside. Luckily, thanks to Poetry Basket 1: Seasons I know a lot of poems about the weather lol.

Had a lovely morning on Thursday - Christmas Jumper Day - doing a live performance of poetry on zoom to 2000 EYFS children. Amazing to see them all joining in with the actions. We also acted out a festive story together.

Love this poem by Brian Bilston. My favourite was always Christmas Eve and getting to open the double doors with my sister, one door each.

This photo was shared with me last year. It’s a Helicopter Story about a cat climbing a Christmas Tree. The children worked out this genius way to become the Christmas tree. When we stand back and let children invent how to represent something with their bodies, the results are often surprising.

I love this. β€œI’ll draw the waves inside it.” Adult artists might struggle to find the way to portray something, but how wonderful that children are often more able to take a risk, to find an answer and have a go. We have much to learn from this way of seeing the world.

Delighted to read this quote about our work.

β€œI cannot recommend The Poetry Basket highly enough. It’s changed the way I teach poetry, it’s like magic… The children now leave this school knowing so many poems.”

I love the way young children aren’t afraid to take a risk in these discussions and how they will find a way to make sense of things by talking about it and exploring it together. Of course the sun is a circle with a star inside. There’s a beautiful logic to this x

Estonia’s curriculum is one of the best β€” what can it teach us? Schools in the tiny Baltic state excel in reading, mathematics and science as well as fairness and happiness

In education debates that revolve around 'ooooh, let's copy that country', Estonia is fast becoming the new Finland.

Having listened to the audio only Story Basket version of the Three Billy Goats Gruff Reception decided to build a bridge and cross it whilst watching out for the troll. Love how engaged they are with these stories.

Woke up to lovely review for the Story Basket. The group had been listening to our audio only version of Chicken Licken. β€œThe vocabulary, such as calamity, and disaster have improved their language skills and they have been using these words in other areas of their play. Amazing for 3 year olds.”
