Canada, like all settler colonial projects, is very careful about who it "recognizes" and who it doesn't. Always read the fine print, the conditions mean everything. Remember, this is the country that still has an "Indian Act" which demonstrates how this process works in practice.

Surprise, the country that recognizes Indigenous nations within its so-called country, but doesn't give them any actual veto powers, and the country that started it all, makes a half-hearted gesture that doesn't mean anything.

every "tech job creation" message is nonsense, because leaders will bend over backwards to bend the entire economy towards it and it's always 1000 jobs tops in populations of millions.

Canada was a signatory to that convention in 1952 while they forcibly took Indigenous children out of their homes (and still do). What are they living up to exactly? They never bothered to live up to it before.

In a world that made even a lick of sense, anybody w/ a degree in anything like social implications of tech should be able to write their own ticket rn.

…But if we lived in a world that recognized, let alone properly valued that expertise, a whole lot of shit would already necessarily be different.
