It’s not pleasant that’s for sure. Unfortunately it only takes a small number of people prepared to go to some rather extreme ends to grab some attention. I’m truly heartened however that Faversham residents make it clear today that they are very much in the minority.

Yes, I did kind of hope someone would go out and put up a whole bunch of other flags of different counties etc on all the other lamposts. They spray painted the pedestrian crossings and roundabouts with red paint too but apparently nobody on the far right knows how to draw a straight line.

When they went up on lamp posts where I live, this was literally the first thing that went through my mind. The flag has become a symbol of the far right because aside from sporting events, it is most often seen draped over the shoulders of thugs spouting hate.

It is possible to be dissatisfied with Labour’s performance but still vote for them rather than Reform. Not saying that will have a massive impact or anything but it’s worth considering in the broader picture.

Teachers start on £30k. Someone working full time on minimum wage earns around £23k. Something tells me either the threshold is now too high or that the minimum wage is too low and teachers are underpaid. Possibly all three?

Our school has recently begun to use the ‘Talk For Writing’ approach and I can honestly say the transformation in the children’s writing from FS to Y6 has been revolutionary. Their work is a joy to read and by teaching grammar contextually, the children learn the terminology along with the purpose.

The GPS test has always been about using a number to quantify something more akin to an art so that politicians can claim they have improved something because the number went up. Often y6 writing is now devoid of any character entirely because of this, yet ticks all the boxes to meet ‘age expected’

Oh I don’t disagree with you, just trying to point out how the idea of there being a right and wrong has pervaded so far that my son’s perception is skewed by it. I think it’s more his attitude to tests tbf. He hates the reading one because he feels you have to guess what they want you to write.

More seriously, my son, who has ASC sat this test and he loved it because “there are right and wrong answers.” Maths is more his thing so it helps him to think of language in a more formulaic way. I still reckon his ‘composition and effect’ is pretty banging though. But that comes from him reading.
