Thanks, @markjacob.bsky.social. The basic question is this: If they're really winding down occupations like the one in Minneapolis, and if they're really moving to a more "targeted" approach, then why the need for vast new prison camps and a military arsenal rivaling those of small nations?

Hiram R. Revels, first Black person to serve in US Congress, took his seat representing Mississippi in the US Senate on this day in 1870. That state’s legislature elected him to serve remainder of a Senate term (through 3/3/1871) interrupted by the state’s secession & the Civil War.

Today in history, 1828: The first issue of the Cherokee Phoenix is printed in New Echota, Cherokee Nation (now Georgia). It was printed in English and Cherokee using the syllabary created by Sequoyah, which allowed the Cherokee language to be printed for the first time. /1

Who's idea was it, anyway, to pull the plug and let the Taliban take over? Didn't a lot of people die to prevent that terror organization from controlling a nation-state again?

Come 2029, we seize all the top-line emoluments: initial bribes, any accrual, no deductions for losses. Trumps'll be so broke even Putin won't hide them.

Karma's gonna have her big boots on.

Did none of these so-called ai thingies ever watch the movie War Games?

Scarier thought: did they watch War Games, Terminator, and Forbin Project and *now* they keep proposing nuclear holocaust? Cuz.

Wha? I thought it was the Putin/Trump cabal that tried to force Ukraine to capitulate forthwith, and it was Ukraine and its European allies who stalled it out with performative negotiations.

I think maybe they found out what that gesture means in other cultures, and love doing it to USA people who don't realize what they mean by it.

I know tonight has a lot of noise, but the truth is simple.

We're in for a world of hurt as the mad wannabe-dictator flails in his dementia.

And it'll take years, maybe decades, but Democracy 2.0 is gonna rock in ways that 1.0 could not.

As Trump rambles on, the American people are still waiting for justice and transparency on the Epstein Files.

My #SOTU guest, Dani Bensky, was a victim of abuse by Jeffrey Epstein, and like so many of her fellow survivors, she’s not standing down in the fight for justice:

Also, the first two ingredients aren't lemon and pepper, but sugar and salt. This may turn out to be a case where my weird food preferences cut me off from certain pleasures.

But I have pepper, and I know where I can get a lemon. There may be hope for me yet.

Gak! I own 11.8 ounces of lemon pepper.

At my current rate of consumption, I'd have to live to be about 12,000 years old to finish this off. Not sure it's worth it.

Someone gave me lemon pepper. I own lemon pepper. Is there a different Black history thing I could eat instead? Not a fan of peanuts, generally, but maybe sweet potatoes?

Ok. If I can find the lemon pepper, I will give it another try.

Men's team better find an excuse not to go to the White House, or each and every one of them will go down in history as pond-scum, not worth the laces on the women's team's skates.

How to stop a dictator I spent months studying how authoritarians like Trump lose. The answer is shockingly simple.

"For months, Trump’s approval on immigration has been dropping," says @zackbeauchamp.bsky.social, citing a "deliberate effort to make the authoritarian thuggishness of his policies legible to the public."

Good explainer on defeating authoritarianism (cites my reporting):
