18.07.2025 18:12 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Did you see the massive WSJ exclusive tonight?
18.07.2025 01:23 β π 48 π 8 π¬ 0 π 0The Late Show is the most popular late night show, averaging around 2 million viewers.
But 20 years ago it averaged 4.5 million. It's an incredibly expensive show that's lost 60% of its audience.
It could be worse. In 2005, The Tonight Show averaged 5.6 million viewers. Today? 1.1 million.
How well did that go with Jon Stewart?
18.07.2025 00:54 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0No one ever said it would be this hard.
18.07.2025 00:53 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Reminds me of how a ticket from Stratford Intl to London St Pancras is Β£8.50 but it's Β£5.10 off-peak with contactless (and Β£7.40 peak).
18.07.2025 00:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ahhh, no, it's much funnier. They use repurposed MetroCard refill machines for MetroCard payments and repurposed parking meters for cash payments.
18.07.2025 00:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's the in-perimeter flights if anything that are the congressmen flights.
17.07.2025 20:13 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0Apparently, "borne" is not a word in English in this sense. (It is in French.)

I'm just a fan of anachronisms.
17.07.2025 20:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I know, but I was kinda sad about that!
17.07.2025 20:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0"And do they have handheld readers or check bank apps?"
This is extremely contentious. They are supposed to have readers to check for EMV fares but there are many reports that they often don't. (MetroCard and cash fares receive a paper ticket from an off board payment borne.)
"Just a sec, so do they or do they not check tickets while buses are moving in NYC?"
Local buses are not POP but they do perform enforcement when visually observed, sometimes in plain clothes.
On POP routes, they generally stop the bus to do onboard enforcement (an insane practice).
Should add that MTA has no power to pursue and as far as I remember are not even peace officers under the law.
17.07.2025 20:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0"Special constables are also employed by universities."
I was kinda sad when UofT was told they had to stop pretending to be police.
Visual comparison may help with what I'm getting at:
17.07.2025 19:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I know they are not literally cops; that's why I asked!
You said "[i]f it looks like cop, dresses like a cop, and talks like a cop, than it is a cop.", but I don't see how that makes MTA inspectors cops while TTC inspectors are not-cops?
It's a little weird, because mainstream journalism is one of those high-prestige, low-pay positions that is extremely competitive, but I guess most cultural elites with basically numeracy and Excel skills really do want to make money instead.
17.07.2025 19:53 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0BREAKING: RENTAL SHARE IN ROLESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA, MORE THAN DOUBLES, TO 2%
17.07.2025 19:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0"In 15 major U.S. metro suburbs, renter households more than doubled between 2018 and 2023."
Am I stupid, or does the article not list these 15 suburbs? (Or both?)
Keeper of the family genealogy assures me that I am not, though I still worry.
17.07.2025 19:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0And the press release itself only mentions bus stops, when Eagle teams mostly work on buses.
17.07.2025 19:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0(1) They mostly do bus enforcement?
(2) They don't have enough Special Inspectors to do SBS enforcement, plain clothes local enforcement and also every Manhattan subway station.
"NYPD support", to me, sounds like a deliberately vaguely worded phrasing for a press release to sound tough.
COBAU: SEC ARE NOT COPS, DO NOT HAVE GUNS, DO HAVE BOATS

17.07.2025 19:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0"NYPD support" does not sound like cops going out with Eagle teams is the default to me.
17.07.2025 19:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Not to my knowledge? As far as I know, Eagle Teams still go out on their own, but I may not be current.
